Submitted by Mary Nelson:

After several discussions with the executive of SRDIAA and the membership during our Annual General Meeting via Zoom, it has been decided that the SRDIAA Cuer/Instructors’ School will be delayed until May 2021, with the hope that travel restrictions and gatherings will be lifted by then.

We have confirmed that the Hall and the Instructors will be available for the new dates of May 10-13, 2021.

For those of you who have already registered, I hope that you will be available to attend on the new dates.  Please confirm.

We hope you are all staying healthy & safe during this strange time in the dance world.

Round Dancers – Using Zoom Meetings to Keep Up Their Skills

Submitted by Mary and Bruce Nelson, Round Dance Instructors for Fun Steps (Edmonton) and Cue Steps (Calgary):

To all Round Dancers

We received several messages from dancers around Alberta that were into serious dance withdrawal and were looking for dance of some kind that they could do during this time of social distancing, where groups cannot get together for a dance.

We have come up with a solution, if you have space in your house that you can manage to dance in, or in your garage, or carport, or even on the driveway or back deck. As long as you can bring your computer, laptop or iPad to the area you pick to dance, you can join one of our Virtual Round Dances.  You can just click on one of the links below and join our zoom meeting dance.  If you have a webcam on your system, you will be able see yourself and other dancers and talk to each other on the break or even send a chat message to one person or to everyone. If you don’t have a webcam you can call in and listen to the dance.

Bruce and Mary Nelson are hosting virtual round dancing three evenings a week until August.  The links for the different evenings are noted below.

Hope to see you at a dance soon.

Changes coming to “SQUARE”ing A”ROUND” Alberta

“SQUARE”ing A”ROUND” Alberta, published in print and online, is the official publication of the the Alberta Square and Round Dance Federation. After many years of compiling the information, Editor Margaret Faas has retired, and the duties have been assumed by Mary Coleman, who is well known to the square dance community in Alberta as the organizer of the Memorial Book and the Church Service at the annual ASRDF Convention.

We all would like to extend our thanks to Margaret and Ron Faas for their work on “SQUARE”ing A”ROUND” Alberta over these past many years. It takes real patience and perseverance to put together a document which depends on the co-operation of so many contributors! Thanks again, Margaret and Ron!

We also welcome Mary and Reuben Coleman to their new role as the Editors of the booklet. This  upcoming Labour Day Weekend you will see them manning the distribution table at the 51st Annual Convention in Lacombe. Updates are needed as soon as they are available so that changes and corrections can be made.
